Assisted Living Campaign
The greater Poweshiek County area currently has a shortage of assisted living units. When a family recognizes that a loved one is in need of services provided by assisted living and there is no availability nearby, they are forced to consider other options, such as:
- Moving the family member to another community where they will not be able to see each other as often;
- Allowing the family member to continue living at home when it may no longer be safe to do so; or
- Moving the family member to a more restrictive and costly living environment than his/her present needs require, such as a long-term healthcare facility.
A local Market Assessment for Assisted Living and Memory Care completed in May 2015 by global market research firm ProMatura Group found that the greater Poweshiek County area currently has a need for 88 additional assisted living units. By 2020, the need will increase to 112 additional assisted living units.
None of us know what the future holds in regard to our own healthcare needs--or the needs of our parents, spouse, children or even grandchildren. That's why it is so important to prepare now for what the future may bring so that facilities and amenities are available when they are needed.
