Madolyn Braley is 100 years young!

February 27, 2025

Seeland Park resident Madolyn Braley is 100 years young! Madolyn moved into her large Seeland Park duplex just over 10 years ago where she continues to reside and still enjoys attending campus activities. In fact, Madolyn was the guest of honor at the February Seeland Park dinner, attending with her three daughters and son-in-law who surprised her with balloons, flowers and birthday cake for everyone! Best wishes to our newest campus centenarian!

Madolyn Casey was born on February 27, 1925 in Toledo, Iowa. She graduated from Montezuma High School and Marshalltown Evangelical School of Nursing, worked at St. Francis and Grinnell General Hospitals, then married Gordon Braley in 1946. They started farming on the Braley farm near Ewart where they raised their three daughters. Madolyn was a busy farmer’s wife working alongside her husband and tending to a large garden. She also worked as a school nurse.

Madolyn has enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and overseas. Her last trip was when she was 89 years old and she took her family on a river boat cruise through Amsterdam and Holland. And… Madolyn is an avid Hawkeye fan!

Madolyn’s family includes her three daughters: Kathy (Frank) Counts of Florida; Sue Cheney of Grinnell; and Barb Braley of Washington state; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. “Mom is a very grateful person who appreciates the simple things in life—billowy white clouds, sunsets and blue skies. She modeled for us the importance of having faith and trust in God and taught us how to love unselfishly and to trust implicitly in God’s grace and provisions,” concluded Madolyn’s daughters.
