“National Wear Red Day” on February 7th

February 17, 2025

Seeland Park and Hammond Center for Assisted Living ladies celebrated Go Red for Women on February 7, which was National Wear Red Day.  This day is part of American Heart Month and is a day to raise awareness about women’s heart health and cardiovascular disease.

This special event orchestrated by Fitness Director Callie McCaslen included blood pressure checks given by Sadie from Grinnell Public Health, an informative presentation on maintaining a healthy lifestyle by Kristy Doane, RN, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab at Unity Point-Grinnell and a style show sponsored by Suzi’s Boutique and JM Consulting of Grinnell.

According to Callie, several Seeland Park and Hammond Center ladies spent a fun few hours at Suzi’s Boutique prior to the event choosing their red-inspired fashions for the style show. Helping them coordinate their beautiful outfits were Susan Schmidt of Suzi’s Boutique and Jennifer McAlexander with JM Consulting. “Jennifer shared style tips with the ladies including helping them accessorize their outfits with jewelry and purses,” mentioned Callie. “Some of the ladies even ventured out of their comfort zones and chose pieces with “bling” which was really fun to see.

To save lives and raise awareness of heart disease which is the No. 1 killer of women, the American Heart Association launched Go Red for Women in 2003.  Women are encouraged to wear red, raise their voices, and make healthy lifestyle changes to live longer, happier and healthier lives!

“It was fun to see all of the attendees dressed in red, showing their support for Go Red Day, and we hope the ladies became more aware of heart disease and the steps they can take to help prevent it. Many women don’t know how big of a problem heart disease is. Our event brought women together to help spread awareness about this silent killer,” concluded Callie.
